Purpose: All education programs are challenged by struggling learners and many have experienced unsuccessful remediation attempts. This educational session will provide approaches and tools to remediate the skills of struggling medical learners from students to fellows, incorporating skills such as medical knowledge, clinical reasoning, communication, professionalism and more. This topic is important since 15% of medical learners struggle to reach competency with the standard curriculum and need additional educational interventions to be safe physicians. This faculty workshop will provide the latest evidence-based approach to identifying, diagnosing and remediating struggling medical learners.
Learning Objectives: Participants will (be able to):
1. Discuss a process for identifying the under-performing learner.
2. Illustrate a framework for diagnosing learner difficulties.
