CALEA® Accreditation

The UConn Police Department has been awarded CALEA® Law Enforcement Accreditation for the seventh time.  CALEA® serves as the International Gold Standard for Public Safety Agencies and accreditation is awarded only after a rigorous self-assessment, requiring a review of policies, practices and processes against internationally accepted public safety standards. This is followed with an assessment by independent assessors with significant public safety experience.  The decision to accredit is rendered by a governing body of twenty-one Commissioners following a public hearing and review of all reporting documentation. It is an award which symbolizes a significant professional accomplishment in law enforcement.

IACLEA Accreditation

The UConn Police Department holds the award of IACLEA Accreditation which represents adherence to the highest standards of professionalism and excellence by campus public safety departments.  IACLEA Accreditation serves as a means to assure the public, parents, and the university community that our campus public safety agency adheres to the highest professional standards. The International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA) represents campus public safety leaders at more than 1,200 institutions of higher education and IACLEA Accreditation constitutes recognition that a department conforms to the highest professional standards for campus law enforcement and protective services.

Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (ATAP)

The UConn Police Department has received membership in this association which is dedicated to a holistic approach to addressing threat and violence risk assessment. The association is comprised of law enforcement officials, prosecutors, mental health professionals, and other corporate security experts. The primary focus, through a professional and educational environment, is to provide resources, knowledge, and support of those responsible for assessing threat. The association hosts ample educational opportunities throughout the United States and also internationally for members to engage with each other for a coordinated and consistent approach in keeping communities safe.

EMS Honored

The American Heart Association has recognized the UConn Fire Department with a “Mission: Lifeline® EMS Gold Award” for implementing quality improvement measures for the treatment of patients who experience severe heart attacks. Emergency medical service providers are vital to the success of the Mission: Lifeline® program, which seeks to save lives by closing the gaps that separate these patients from timely access to appropriate treatments that restore critical blood flow. EMS agencies perform 12-lead ECGs which measure the electrical activity of the heart and can help determine if a heart attack has occurred. They also follow protocols derived from American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology guidelines. These correct tools, training, and practices allow EMS providers to rapidly identify suspected heart attack patients, promptly notify the medical center, and trigger an early response from the awaiting hospital personnel. Agencies that receive the Mission: Lifeline Gold award have demonstrated at least 75 percent compliance for each required achievement measure for two years.
